Ginny Wedss Sunny 2 is a 2026 Indian Hindi-language romantic comedy film written and directed by Prasshant Jha. Produced under Soundrya Production and Zee Studios, the film stars Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr. It is a spiritual sequel to Ginny Weds Sunny (2020).

The film was released theatrically on 24 April 2026 and received negative reviews from critics.

Premise

A solitary wrestler (Avinash Tiwary) re-evaluates his life when a young bachelorette crashes into his life and challenges his core assumptions , that's when he meets Ginny

Development

The film was officially announced by Zee Studios, with Prashant Jha serving as writer and director, while Soundrya Production managed the production.

Casting

Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr were cast in the lead roles. Lillete Dubey, Sudhir Pandey, Govind Namdev, Gopi Bhalla, Rohit Chaudhary, Nayani Dixit, Vishwanath Chatterjee, and Preetika Pahwa were added to the cast.

Filming

Pre-production began in March 2025. Principal photography began in May 2025 and concluded in July 2025 taking place in Uttarakhand.

Release

The film was theatrically released on 24 April 2026.

Theatrical Reception

Firstpost's Lachmi Deb Roy rated the film 2.75 out of 5, praising the chemistry between Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr, the supporting cast and the film's simplicity, while noting its predictability and dialogue-heavy writing. PeepingMoon rated the film 3 out of 5, praising the lead performances and music while finding the story familiar.

Dhaval Roy of The Times of India rated the film 2 out of 5, finding its premise promising and performances sincere but criticising the uneven writing and romance. Rishabh Suri of Hindustan Times rated it 2.5 out of 5, describing it as occasionally funny and easy to watch while finding the narrative repetitive.

Rahul Desai of The Hollywood Reporter India criticised the film's humour, characterisation and score. Shubhra Gupta of The Indian Express rated the film 1 out of 5 and criticised its writing, songs and treatment of its central themes. Sana Farzeen of India Today rated the film 2 out of 5, describing its narrative as scattered and clichéd.

OTT Reception

Following its digital release on Prime Video, the film received renewed media attention. Firstpost reported that viewers were discovering it through streaming, social-media discussion and personal recommendations, and associated the response with its relatable storytelling and portrayal of family relationships. The publication also profiled the film's writer-director, Prasshant Jha, as a debut filmmaker whose work was reaching a wider audience through the streaming release.

India TV reported on 29 June 2026 that the film had appeared in Prime Video's trending-film list for about 21 days and was ranked seventh at the time of publication. The report noted the response to Avinash Tiwary's performance as well as discussion of the film's writing, direction and visual treatment.

Bhaskar Digital subsequently reported that the film was among Prime Video's five most-watched films. It highlighted Avinash Tiwary and Medha Shankr's performances and associated the film's appeal with its ensemble treatment, music, humour and emotional material. DNA India later also reported a top-five placement lasting more than three weeks, describing the streaming performance as an underdog success for Jha's directorial debut and attributing its growth to word of mouth.
